Underwriting can be overwhelming and convoluted.
We know the clients you protect have their own unique histories that often present underwriting challenges. With so many options available, knowing where to start can be daunting. Let IAMS remove the mystery and help you choose the right carrier the first time. Contact Andrea the next time you’ve “got a guy” that you’re not quite sure where to start with, and stop declines before they happen. You might just be surprised at what she’ll find…
The Challenge:
Male, early 70s, non-smoker, but does enjoy an occasional cigar.
The client was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation in 2014 and had 2 ablations over the next year. In 2015, the client suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in his brain stem, thought to be caused by the blood thinner he was prescribed for the AFib. In 2016, he had a Cox-Maze procedure done, and there have been no recurrences since.
In addition to AFib, this client was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes over 20 years ago, with a recent A1C of 7.3.
He is also being treated for hypertension.
The Solution:
We knew the combination of diabetes with Atrial Fibrillation and Hypertension was going to be difficult to place. However, we were able to provide the carriers with favorable follow-up testing showing no residuals resulting from the single-event stroke. The client’s hypertension was well controlled with medication, there were no complications stemming from the diabetes, and no other health impairments to note. After shopping this with each of our carriers and receiving multiple declines, 3 outliers made offers ranging from 2-4 tables!
If you want to learn more about the underwriting challenges presented by a client with Atrial Fibrillation, Andrea recently hosted a webinar where she goes in-depth on the topic. Watch the webinar now at this link.
