Today’s Challenge:

- 59 years old
- Non-tobacco user
The client has a PTSD diagnosis, which is stable and well-controlled with no history of psychiatric hospitalization, disability, suicidal ideation, or attempt. He has been prescribed medical marijuana as a form of treatment and is using both edibles and smoking the flower form on a daily basis.
The Resolution:
While marijuana use is typically insurable, we had two carriers that opted to decline this case due to the client using on a daily basis, regardless of the reason or the prescription. We then saw a majority of our carriers make tentative offers ranging anywhere from table 2 through table 6, both smoker and non-smoker rates.
However, we were able to establish that the PTSD was mild and closely monitored, and we found one diamond in the rough willing to offer at Preferred Plus Non-tobacco rates! This demonstrates once again that shopping complex cases before submitting an application can really pay off.
